440-1.EXE COM1 version
440-2.EXE COM2 version
440.doc this file
440-x.EXE is a stand alone compiled basic program designed to control
the KENWOOD 440s or 940s from the keyboard of an IBM-PC computer through
serial ports COM1 or COM2. It is designed to run from a single command
line or through the menus provided in the program itself. By entering all
440-x commands from the command line the program can be used with the
new "!" DOS shell command in version 4.2 of W0RLI CPBBS.
EXAMPLE of a typical command used in the FWD.MB file:
!b <DOS shell command for port B of the CPBBS
440-2 20 5 <440-2.EXE command string (COM2:)
*** EOF <END of dos shell
GB0023F W0RLI <Beginning of next forward list
W0RLI
*** EOF
In the above example the "440-2" runs the 440-2.EXE program then
picks option "20" (SELECT MEMORY CHANNEL) and finally "5" which
selects channel 5. This same kind of command sequence could be used
in the autoexec file to initialize the radio on startup.
WARNING... this program is untested and you should try each command
sequence using the manual menu method before including it in your
FWD.MB or AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The program will ECHO the radio command
to your screen when run through your FWD.MB file, I kept that in
as an indication that the program actually ran. It will be taken out
of the final version when run from a command string if it causes a problem.
This program was written to allow a handicapped fellow ham control his
radio from the keyboard of his PC. My original intent was to write the
thing in C but I could not figure out how to control the PORTS and make
use of the COMBIOS etc.. I knew I could write the program in a few
hours in BASICA but I also knew the result would limit it's operation
to COM1 and COM2 only. To make a long story short I am making the program
available now in compiled basic form while I await additional information
on the control of the communication ports using the COMBIOS programs.
I DO NOT have an interface to control my 440s yet but it is on order so
if any of you have any comments or suggested additions to the program
please leave a message so I can add the features to it.
